Automated Parking Systems are fundamental for the Industry

Automated Parking Systems solve the parking requirement for the estimated 1.2 billion cars in the world.

With such a high number of cars circulating around the world, fulfilling the parking needs of the cars and drivers is becoming an ever more pressing issue. In the long run, the only answer to this challenge are modern solutions like Automated Parking Systems, which that maximize the use of space.

In an article for the UK PSS Magazine, Jason Petsch, director of Skyline Parking, reveals how the first Automated Parking System (APS) was constructed in 1905 for the Garage Rue de Ponthieu. Although this APS was not as modern and truly automated like the current versions, it followed the same concept: finding a way to move cars without the need for people. In the APS of 1905, cars were moved up and down to different floors where attendants could then park the cars.

Nowadays, the APS that companies like Skyline offer are complete automated. Drivers simply leave their car in the drop-off area and the system does the rest of the work. Skyline ensures high levels of security by using conveyor belt technology, which provides maximum stability for the car.

With the number of cars increasing and estimated to reach 2.5 billion by 2050, Automated Parking Systems provide the most efficient way to maximize space and maintain parking availability at the same time. To quote Jason Petsch, “just like smartphones, or any new innovation, APS is a technology that needs a range of factors to come into play before hitting the mainstream […] I think we’ve reached a tipping point. [APS] it's a technology for which the time has come.”
