Indect Parking Guidance System Installed at Muscat International Airport in Oman

“It’s incredibly hot here. Some days the temperature can reach 55 degrees C (131 F),” said Wissam Dernayka, General Manager of INDECT Middle East. “The airport needed a system that could withstand extreme temperatures while maintaining accuracy and reliability.”

INDECT’s IP 65 rating means the system is completely sealed against dust, dirt, sand and debris. It is also protected from the increased humidity that occurs during the region’s occasional tropical storms.

Muscat International Airport is the main international airport in the Sultanate of Oman and is situated 32km west of the capital city of Muscat. Since its first opening in 1973, the Airport has enjoyed steady growth with the number of passengers more than tripling since 2006.

To better accommodate the rise in passenger demand, a new, state-of-the-art terminal was recently opened in March, 2018. The new terminal increases the airport’s capacity to 20 million passengers per year.  Two additional expansions have also been planned, which will bring the expected capacity to 48 million/year.

2500 single-space, ultra-sonic sensors have been installed in the airport’s new parking garage, enabling drivers to easily and accurately locate a parking spot.
