Ballast Nedam Transforms Park and Ride into a Green Transport Hub

Ballast Nedam, the leading construction company in the Netherlands, is finishing the construction of the Park and Ride in Deutersestraat in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

The parking facility is set to be a transport hub providing enough parking space for 1,100 cars and 260 bicycles, and will include EV charging stations for both cars and bicycles. The roof of the Park and Ride will also have 1,500 solar panels which will provide the electricity for the EV charging stations as well as for the electric public transport buses that will use the facility. The solar panels will generate about 450,000 KwH each year, double of what the parking facility needs, and the extra power will be given back to the grid.

The Park and Ride in Den Bosch will be the first parking garage in the Netherlands that is Energy Neutral and supplies the extra generated energy back to the grid. It will be the first Park and Ride garage that will receive a Green label thanks to the focus on the environment throughout the facility. In order to maintain and encourage the natural ecosystem to thrive, plants will be used inside the parking garage as well as in the surrounding areas creating spaces for insects and birds.

Ballast Nedam is in the final stages of construction and the facility will be officially inaugurated on April 22nd, 2018.
