Colchester adopts Cale WebTeminal

Colchester Borough Council has become the first parking operator to install Cales new WebTerminal pay stations in the UK.
Five WebTerminal 2120 units have been installed at the 369-space Britannia car park. The machines communicate with the latest Cale WebOffice platform via GRPS connections.

Drivers are asked to input their licence plate when paying, using the dynamic screen. The machines work in conjunction with PIP 3G wireless ANPR cameras, which record vehicle arrivals and departures and transmit this information via a 3G link. Reference to the back office software enables council staff to determine whether cars have paid for the parking time. This is allowing them to better plan when parking attendants need to visit the car park.

Richard?Walker, parking manage for Colchester Parking Partnership, hopes to work with Cale BriParc to develop the technology to the extent that customers no longer need to display a ticket.

The CWT 2120 machines high-resolution touchscreens also enable customers to select the tariff they want rather than just inserting coins up to a set value. In addition, time specific offers can be displayed in real time. Colchester has offers such as Shop (10am to 3pm), Enjoy (3pm to midnight) and the all-day for 5p Sunday.

The council plans to provide idetails of in-town attractions and activities via the display screens. Colchesters Parking Partnership operates parking and enforcement services on behalf of Braintree District Council, Uttlesford District Council and certain highway parking services for Essex County Council.
