Predictions for the Mobile Paid Parking Market in 2019

Johan Birgersson Shares His Predictions With Parking Network on the Weekly News Video

As we enter into a new year, Johan Birgersson, the CEO of EasyPark Group shares some of his insights into what we can expect from the mobile paid parking market in 2019.

What do you think the future trends will be in mobile paid parking in 2019?

Headshot of Johan Birgersson, a business man in grey suitBirgersson, “First of all, I expect that the growth momentum that we have seen last year will continue. We can see that more and more municipalities, for on-street parking, and commercial parking operators, for off-street parking, adopting mobile phone parking.

“We are also seeing a trend of adding more features and services in order to create more value for the motorist. The first and most important feature is the ability to guide them to an available parking space. Another key feature, which we can see an interesting increase in, is offering mobile phone parking in gated areas and garages. And thirdly, there is an increasing need for solutions to manage and pay for EV charging. As the number of electric vehicles on the road rises we expect that this third service or feature will add additional value to motorists in this growing market.”

How do you think mobile paid parking will evolve?

Johan Birgersson, “In my view, all cities, in all markets, will, sooner or later, have over 90% of their total parking being mobile phone parking. This move to mobile phone parking has been proven in cities that digitalize the complete urban ecosystem, and we have an increasing list of cities reaching out to us who want our help and consultancy in achieving this.

“In line with that, we have also developed a management tool application providing parking data that can help cities further develop their parking policies to improve traffic flow, decrease urban congestion and, therefore, reduce their carbon footprint.”

What can we expect from EasyPark in 2019?

Johan Birgersson, “We will continue to fuel our organic growth momentum from 2018 and further expand our European footprint, in terms of markets and also in depth in each country and city. We will further improve our services to cities and parking operators, and develop our mobile phone parking within gated areas. We are also in the process of rolling out our parking guidance for the end user, thus helping to fulfill the motorist’s top two needs; a faster way to find an available parking spot, and an application making it possible to remotely manage and pay for their parking.”
