Ensto enters into partnership with EasyPark in regards to charging payments infrastructure

Ensto as one of the leading companies offering solutions for electric vehicle charging infrastructure enters into strategic partnership with EasyPark to supply an option for mobile payment infrastructure for charging stations that is ready to go with no up-front investment.

With a new directive being processed at the level of the European commission, mandating countries to invest significantly in charging infrastructure between now and 2020, the era of free electric vehicle charging will come to an end. “No one will afford to allow thousands of drivers to charge their cars without invoicing the customer for the electricity consumption. We already today have examples of customers that have realized this and we need to provide a simple and cost effective payment option. Therefore we have chosen to work together with leading parking payments provider EasyPark”, says Allan Ahlgren, responsible for the EV charging solution business at Ensto.

“Since you need to park in order to charge, it makes total sense to bring together parking payments and payment for charging in terms of creating an intuitive and streamlined user experience. In addition, mobile payment allows us to communicate in real time to the customer about charging status so that drivers can get back to their vehicle at the right time. Customer can also select to pay the fees themselves or if it should be charged to their company account directly in the App”, says Magnus Flodberg, responsible for electro mobility initiatives in EasyPark Group.

Both companies believe that no single actor can predict and design the complex user needs of the next generation of services. Rather these will be co-created by market actors that focus on what they do best in open network collaboration. It is important to allow so called roaming of the payment services – meaning that drivers can pay by the same method regardless of who has manufactured the charging station or who owns it.

About EasyParkEasyPark logo

EasyPark was established in 2000 and is today present on a pan-European basis with services that allow drivers to pay for parking and for charging by using their mobile phone instead of using a traditional parking meter. Paying by phone is increasingly popular among drivers due to its simplicity and convenience. Driver satisfaction and cost efficiency in collecting parking and charging payments makes pay by phone the preferred technology among cities and parking operators.
