Flowbird: Paid Parking In Nantes - An Extension For Sustainable Mobility

The city chose Flowbird to support it in the deployment of this new parking plan.

The city of Nantes, keen to facilitate mobility within its territory, is proposing a new development in its urban landscape: the extension of paid parking. Since June 2023, as part of an effort to make Nantes more environmentally friendly and reduce dependence on personal vehicles, new parking areas have become chargeable.

Smoother parking management

Several reasons prompted the city of Nantes to deploy this project. The first is to improve traffic flow in urban and residential areas . By making parking pay, road congestion will decrease and traffic flow will improve. The second is to encourage residents to use public transport and other sustainable modes of travel more .

Flowbird, partner of this new parking plan

As part of this extension, 400 new parking meters were installed in the heart of Nantes and 600 were renewed. The city chose Flowbird to support it in the deployment of this new parking plan. The 1,000 new parking meters offer payment by coin or contactless bank card to allow all users to easily pay for their parking permit. This project is also conducive to the redefinition of herringbone parking with the aim of strengthening the safety of pedestrians, people with reduced mobility, and improving the visibility of cyclists. Furthermore, the extension of the parking perimeter simplifies pricing for residents. They will be able to benefit from reductions of 30% to 90% on their first subscription, thanks to the solidarity pricing system.

A promising project

Almost 6 months after the start of the project, the first results are already visible. Elected officials note a reduction in parking pressure. “ In areas where saturation reached 140% occupancy, today 20% to 30% of places are available. The sucker cars are gone. Parking has become more fluid while inviting visitors to change their modes of travel .” specifies Denis Tallédec, elected traffic and parking delegate, for Ouest France on 01/02/2024.
