IPS Group Selected to Provide Smart Parking Meters by MAPC in Statewide Procurement

IPS Group, Inc. (www.ipsgroupinc.com) was recently selected as one of the vendors to provide both single-space and multi-space parking meters to the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) as a result of its collective procurement process. This procurement will allow any municipality in the state of Massachusetts to contract directly with any of the approved vendors.

The smart parking meters approved by the MAPC offer customers the ability to pay with credit/debit card, smart card, contactless payment and even their mobile phone.

In addition, each IPS meter is wirelessly integrated into one common state-of-the-art back office system. “This translates into fewer systems for Cities to integrate with, and provides the flexibility to choose the mix of technologies that are right for them,” says Chad Randall, Chief Operating Officer of IPS Group.

The new meters are solar powered and communicate real-time data on occupancy, revenue and potential maintenance issues via the back office system. "It used to be a parking meter was a parking meter," said Marc Draisen, executive director of MAPC. "Now, there are all kinds of systems out there, and it can be hard for cities and towns to figure out which technology is best. We've screened these systems and figured out how well they work, and which ones are priced the best. We hope this makes it easier for municipal officials to choose a system that's right for their community." As a result of the procurement, municipalities in Massachusetts can simply visit the MAPC website, choose their desired meters from any of the selected vendors and submit the form to the MAPC.
