Allentown Parking Authority Launches MobileNOW! Pilot Service for Parkers to Pay by Mobile Phone

The Allentown Parking Authority today announced the launch of a pilot program allowing residents and visitors to pay for parking by mobile phone at some 150 downtown meters, a service offered in conjunction with leading technology provider MobileNOW!.

MobileNOW! was selected as part of a competitive RFP process to be the City’s pay by cell provider. Its strong presence in the neighboring city of Bethlehem, as well as nearby Reading, PA, known as the 222 corridor, was a deciding factor in the selection process says MobileNOW! CEO and President John Oglesby.

Allentown Parking Authority Executive Director Tamara Dolan stated, “We are happy to partner with MobileNOW! to provide another opportunity for parkers in Allentown to conveniently and easily pay for their parking. Allowing customers to extend their parking session is also smart parking management.”

The Allentown Parking Authority recently added a credit card payment option at many of its downtown meters.  The meters selected for the pilot area, however, currently offer the ability to pay by coin only; thus, the MobileNOW! service enables an alternative payment option.

Customers have the ability to register on the spot by scanning a QR code on the meter to download the MobileNOW! app, or register online at mobile-now.com, or by calling the local pay by cell number on the meter decal.

Once registered, customers simply call the local pay by cell number (484) 714-0990 and enter the parking location # and duration, or scan the QR code on the meter decal, or access the app and enter the location # and duration manually. Customers can extend their parking time remotely up to the legal allowable time.  Customers are assessed the regular parking fee, plus a 30 cent convenience fee per transaction.

In launching the program, MobileNOW! is working closely with the Allentown Parking Authority, and the local Hamilton District Main Street Program and Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce to get out the word out on the street about the new payment option.  “With the completion of the new hockey and concert arena, and plans for extended on-street parking hours, the pay by cell payment will likely take on an expanded role as a safer and more convenient payment option for local parkers”, says Krista Altok Tassa, co-founder of MobileNOW!.
