Safety success for SYPTE

Doncaster’s new White Rose Way Park & Ride site has received an award for safety after meeting quality requirements set by the Police and the British Parking Association (BPA) for surveillance, quality control, cleanliness and brightness.

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) was presented with a Park Mark Safer Parking award at White Rose Way Park & Ride by South Yorkshire Police and the BPA in February this year. The Award recognises efforts in reducing crime and the fear of crime in parking areas.

SYPTE’s Doncaster North, Doncaster South, Malin Bridge, Halfway, Nunnery Square and Middlewood Park & Ride sites; Swinton, Adwick, Rotherham and Meadowhall Interchanges; and Bentley and Wombwell railway stations have also successfully achieved a Safer Parking award.

SYPTE Director of Customer Experience, David Young, said: “We are delighted to receive the Park Mark Safer Parking Status for a large number of our SYPTE parking sites. Customer safety and providing high standards at our facilities is important to us.

“We make sure that all SYPTE parking areas are well managed and maintained to prevent criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, and reduce the fear of crime. We put our customers at the heart of everything we do and we are pleased to be able to reassure them that our car parks are safe and secure.”

The Safer Parking Scheme (SPS) is an initiative of the Associations of Chief Police Officers that has seen a drop in vehicle-related crime at some sites of over 80%.

BPA Area Manager for the North East, Phil Taylor, said: “White Rose Way Park & Ride sets a good example for safer parking. It is clean and tidy and the boundaries, lighting, vehicle layout and signage are clear to see, providing a safe and reassuring experience. It demonstrates SYPTE’s dedication to making their car parking experience a pleasure for customers.”

The privately-funded White Rose Way Park & Ride opened in January 2013 alongside the new Morrisons FirstPoint Superstore just two minutes from the M18, Junction 3. Stagecoach buses run between the Park & Ride and Doncaster town centre every 15 minutes Monday to Saturday, and day return tickets are available for an introductory offer of £1 per person.

White Rose Way P&R is a 250-space Park and Ride facility within easy reach of Doncaster town centre. It is managed by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, together with partners Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, Catesby and Stagecoach. Catesby funded the development of the site.
