Advanced parking technology for Eastbournes Enterprise Shopping Centre
Eastbournes Enterprise Shopping Centre (ESC) has installed Parkeons latest Varioflex Pay-on-Foot (P-o-F) parking solution with Chip & PIN card, bank note and coin payment facilities in its 115 space surface car park.
The new solution provides a number of advanced technological features. They include Parkeons new MR40 Payment Card Industry-PIN Entry Device (PCI-PED) approved card reader, which guarantees the security of the card within the terminal and is accredited by the UK banking industry.
All terminals and pay stations at the ESC handle high coercivity (Hi-co) tickets, which are the most secure and reliable available. They will function even when wet or screwed-up, and have a typical failure rate of just 1 in 150,000. Hi-co tickets are less corruptible than the Lo-co variant, which may be accidently wiped, e.g. after being in close proximity to a mobile phone.The Varioflex solution has also enabled the operator to introduce a discount parking pass for tenants, utilising rechargeable mag- tripe cards. This bespoke system simplifies the schemes management by computerising its administration, whilst the cards replace cash, reducing revenue collection costs, explains Denise Harwood, the ESCs Commercial Director.
The installation comprises one automatic and two manual pay stations with barriers and terminals on the single entry and exit lanes and a slave terminal on the ingress. A second manual pay station has been installed as a back-up in the Centres ground floor reception. Financial and statistical data are generated and reconciled via Varioflexs easy-to-use, web-based, centralised management system. A variable messaging system (VMS) has been incorporated to continually show the number of spaces available.
We have a good relationship with Parkeon and are delighted with the new scheme, adds Denise Harwood. They took-out their old Flexio system and turned around the installation of the new Varioflex in just two days, which was absolutely brilliant.
The two-storey Enterprise Shopping Centre comprises 50+ retail units, offices and leisure facilities. An entry system has been installed in the main entrance lobby to provide drivers with access to the automatic pay stationwhen the actual shopping centre is closed.
Local residents are able to use the car park out of business hours for 5p per hour, giving them access to a secure parking facility that is monitored continuously by CCTV. However, in order to discourage drivers travelling from the adjacent railway station from using the ESC car park, it operates as a short stay facility when the shops are open.
