NCP expands operations with Parkeon centralised parking management systems

Parkeon, the world s leading provider of parking space management solutions, has added 250 Pay & Display (P&D) terminals and five Pay-0n-Foot (P-o-F) parking schemes to the centralised management systems that it supplied to NCP, the UKs largest car park provider, for the operators recently opened 5 million National Operations Centre (NOC) in Croydon, South London.
The centralisation systems were part of a 1.5 million contract awarded to Parkeon to upgrade major parts of NCPs car park revenue collection and management systems and to consolidate the entire operation on a national platform at the new NOC, which has replaced six regional operation centres. NCP is able to monitor and manage over 150 Parkeon-equipped car parks across Great Britain, 24/7 from Croydon. The systems provided have rationalised the resources required by NCP to manage its car parks, reducing overall operating costs.

With the scheme extension, NCP now has over 500 Parkeon P&D terminals in a total of 134 surface and multi-storey car parks and a further 29 car parks with Parkeon P-o-F pay stations and entry/exit barriers/terminals throughout the country.

The NOC is one of the most advanced control facilities in the parking industry. It enables us to control our nationwide portfolio of car parks and offer our customers first class service, says Neil Robson, Technology Director at NCP.

As part of the contract, Parkeon also replaced the P-o-F pay stations that it had previously supplied to the operator with its latest Varioflex machines, which are equipped with EMV-approved card readers. This enables them to accept credit card payments, as well as coins and bank notes. The centralised management system has been transferred from the Flexio software suite that Parkeon originally provided to the latest Varioflex centralisation program, which has enhanced functionality.

In each of 134 P&D-controlled car parks, Parkeon has replaced one of the Stelio machines that it had previously supplied with its latest Strada Rapide terminal. The new machines are also equipped with EMV-approved card readers, giving drivers the opportunity of using either a credit card or coins to pay for their parking at every such site. At the same time, the remaining 200+ Stelio terminals were retro-fitted with GPRS modems, enabling them to be centrally monitored, along with the Strada Rapides, on Parkeons Parkfolio centralised P&D management system in Croydon. Data from both Varioflex and Parkfolio programs can be extracted and merged onto NCPs own back office system, along with credit card transaction data.

The Varioflex P-o-F systems were installed at a rate of two per week over a 14-week period. The P&D project was completed over a similar period, despite the logistical challenge of rolling-out equipment over 134 locations nationwide.
