Parkeon provides the City of Rome with all the assets to ensure successful on-street parking management

The City of Romes parking and transport operator, ATAC, has chosen to outsource all technical aspects of parking management to Parkeon, the global leading provider of parking space management solutions together with the provision of 2,000 pay & display terminals.
ATAC will focus on control and enforcement and on improving parking revenue and efficiency, whilst Parkeon is in charge of providing the means to facilitate and ensure successful on-street parking management.

To win this 15.7 m contract, one of the largest worldwide on-street parking market tenders ever issued, Parkeon placed the emphasis on a highly available infrastructure monitored in real-time that significantly improves operations efficiency and revenue management, declares Yves Chambeau, Parkeons President.

The contract signed end of April is assorted to stringent requirements:

- A Service Level Agreement of above 99% machine up time designed to increase end-client satisfaction and payment rate. This is completed by a payment module developed by Parkeon, capable of managing a whole range of payment means.

- The protection of cash and data against vandalism and fraud attempts to further contribute to secured revenues. Parkeon responded with the best available technologies in the field.

- Ease of use for both end clients and maintenance operations, which was made possible thanks to Parkeons Strada P&D ergonomic design.

- An accurate, real-time analysis and monitoring of parking activities. Parkeon is also providing a centralized P&D management platform for this.

This contract, in which security, connectivity services and a complete service offer are key elements, is major accolade for Parkeon and a recognition of our capabilities in all these fields, adds Yves Chambeau.

The contract includes the installation of 2,000 Strada (Parkeons new solar-powered pay & display terminal), the replacement of 1,250 ageing DG4 Parkeon terminals (1,600 of which are currently still in operation in the streets of Rome) and a 6-year full-service agreement for the complete maintenance of ATACs whole P&D fleet.

The new Strada offers maximal security thanks to the best available technologies on the market today (e.g. armoured steel, on-line attack detection, e-lock...) Terminals accept bank card payments, prepaid smartcard payments and have been configured to accept new payment means in the future. With regards to P&Ds availability, in addition to a 99% up-time, the Service Level Agreement specifies that Parkeon has 4 hours maximum to conduct preventive or corrective actions and to replace consumables.

Romes P&Ds will be interconnected via a wireless GPRS network and managed by Parkeons back-office system Parkfolio. Leveraging its data management and financial reporting software platform,, this will in particular help the operator to ease revenue consolidation (the system also improves enforcement procedures by telling where and when control is requested based for instance, on unusually low payment rates occurring in a given area). The platform is operated from Parkeons data center in Bologna.
