Parkeon wins contract for The O2 parking system

C&SP is the parking management company preferred by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), the developments operator.

The Varioflex system will manage 2,200 spaces across four car parks at The O2, which is located on the Greenwich peninsula in Londons Docklands. The venue comprises a 20,000 seater arena, a 2,200 capacity live music club, 11 screen multiplex cinema, ice rink, world-class exhibition space, and an entertainment district featuring bars, restaurants, and retail and leisure facilities.

Visitors to events staged at The O2 will be able to pre-book parking spaces either on-line - via the Ticketmaster booking agency and The O2 websites or in person at the venues box office, when it opens in June. They will use the credit cards with which they have paid for their seats as an ID to access the parking facilities via Varioflex entry/exit terminals. An enhanced version of Parkeons Varioflex software has been developed to create a seamless transactions system between the on-site Varioflex server and the reservation systems operated by The O2, Ticketmaster, and C&SP.

Parkeons commitment to developing its software to meet the operators
requirements, together with the Companys ability to meet a series of tight deadlines during the venues development, were major factors in it winning this prestigious contract, says Paul May, General Manager at C&SP.

There will be 11 Varioflex automatic pay stations accepting coins, banknotes and Chip n PIN credit cards for visitors to The O2 entertainment district and exhibitions. Eight Varioflex entry terminals/barriers and 13 exit terminals/ barriers will also be installed. Two entry lanes will be bi-directional to speed-up traffic flows at the end of major event

The Greenwich Peninsula
The 5bn comprehensive regeneration of the 190 acres of the Greenwich Peninsula is being led by Lend Lease and Quintain Estates and Development plc, who together have formed Meridian Delta Limited (MDL) and entered into a long term joint venture with English Partnerships, the national regeneration agency.

Over the next 15 to 20 years, the site will be transformed into a new 15 million ft2 (1.4 million m2) master planned community with a unique blend of residential, entertainment, business, retail and community uses. Planning permission was issued in early 2004 and will see the delivery of 10,000 new homes (including 38% affordable housing), the creation of 24,000 long-term job opportunities, new retail and community facilities and landscaped open space.

AEG is responsible for building and operating The O2 (under the roof of the former Millennium Dome) and the immediate surrounding area as part of the redevelopment. This area will be transformed into a major leisure and entertainment district. AEG is also responsible for operating The David Beckham Football Academy on the Peninsula.
