Parkeon Joins-Up Parking with Retailing through City Connector

StradaPAL parking terminals

Plymouth City Council has become the first local authority in the country to roll out Parkeon’s ‘City Connector’ scheme, creating value for local retailers by offering couponing and discounts via the company’s StradaPAL parking terminals.

The transformation of StradaPAL terminals into multi-service kiosks provides businesses with a new marketing channel and enables both motorists and pedestrians to scroll through and print coupons and special offers redeemable in the local area.

Darren Stoneman, Senior Community Protection Officer, Plymouth City Council says “the Parkeon scheme allows us to give businesses the chance to run promotional campaigns on parking terminals where there is a high turnover of vehicles – providing a low-cost opportunity for them to build their trade.

Plymouth is the first city in the country to have adopted the scheme. We’re really committed to it and are using it in areas of high footfall – and the feedback we are receiving has been very positive both from retailer and consumers. There’s a really positive vibe around the scheme.

The StradaPAL terminals incorporate interactive colour screens, making it easy for people to scroll through offers and then select and print coupons for redemption. The Plymouth project covers the city centre and the historic waterfront - and to date 13 retailers are either actively involved or are considering participation.

The StradaPAL application can also be used to encourage people to visit local cultural, heritage or other tourist sites by providing details, photographs, directions and even QR codes. Parkeon also foresees a rapid expansion of terminal-based services, including community information and event publicity, in line with its vision of providing a true multi-service kiosk for use by local communities.

City Connector provides local authorities and town centre managers with a communication channel for retailers and tourist attractions that is simple, cost-effective and timely. The role of parking terminals is being transformed by Parkeon – today they are increasingly valued as retail, information and services hubs alongside their core role in parking management.” Says Danny Hassett, Parkeon’s Regional Parking Director.
