Spokane, WA Chooses Parkeon

As part of their plan to enhance the downtown parking system, the City of Spokane, WA has selected Parkeon to install parking pay stations to replace single-head coin only meters.  After a competitive bid process that included 8 vendors, Parkeon was chosen to install 10 solar powered Strada pay stations in Pay-by-Space configuration.  After a several month trial, the City plans to install up to 75 Parkeon units throughout the downtown.
The City of Spokane has been working with Rick Williams Consulting Group to understand current occupancy for parking both on and off street, and have come up with recommendations to improve parking conditions in the downtown core.  One of the recommendations made to the City was to install multi-space meters because they have proven to make downtown parking better, and increase revenues for cities as well.  The new Parkeon system will help with data collection and analysis since all transaction information will be available in the companys web based myParkfolio back-office system.
The Parkeon system will also provide the motorists of Spokane various options for paying at the meter, including coins, credit cards, and cell phone payment.  Parkeon has teamed up with Parkmobile to deploy an integrated solution where all cell phone payments will appear in one back-office system for easy enforcement and data analysis.

One important factor in the vendor selection was how well the pay stations hold up to extreme cold. With deployments of solar powered pay stations throughout Canada, the state of Washington, and in cold weather cities like Aspen (CO) and Park City (UT), Parkeon proved that they have the right equipment to meet the demanding weather in Spokane.

Our team selected Parkeon because we knew their pay stations would be reliable and hold up to the sometimes harsh environment in Spokane, said City Planner Louis Meuler.  We were also impressed by the level of experience of their project team, which will be integral to making our new parking system successful.
