OSRAM Deploys Parquery's Smart Parking Solution in Chiasso

Lighting poles are used as installation points for cameras supplying Parquery's Smart Parking Solution

OSRAM, leading company in the lighting domain, continues its mission to transform itself into an IT company by using its lighting pole infrastructure as a backbone for value-added services to cities.

That has been the case in Chiasso (Switzerland), where the lighting poles were used as installation points for cameras, which provide image feeds for Parquery’s Smart Parking Solution.

AGE SA was the local multi-utility which took advantage of the innovative solution in order to include smart parking into the services it is bringing to the city.

In AGE, we are always looking with interest to the new services that can be enabled by our partners, in order to keep on providing cutting-edge services to our citizens," says Paolo Walker, AGE VP "In this case, we are very happy to provide a solution that will improve citizens life, cut operational costs and help us have a greener environment”.

The easiness of deployment and accuracy of the solution was tested in the Fontana da Sagno street, and next steps are being taken in order to make the information about available parking spots, visible throughout the whole city.

A special merit note has to be given to AGE, as we will always need pioneers who are willing to embrace the innovation that we are trying to channel to the market.

Cameras installed into OSRAM’s lighting poles cover 55 parking spaces and allow Parquery to generate information about parking occupancy and duration. An area where parking is not allowed is covered as well, displaying the flexibility of Computer Vision technology and the aid it can provide to the enforcement staff in detecting, not only cars that are exceeding the parking time limit of 4 hours, but also situations where a prompt intervention is needed. A mobile navigation system is provided by AnyPark, which integrates Parquery’s information into its publicly available app, allowing drivers to quickly find a parking space along the street.

OSRAM’s vision of its infrastructure as a technology enabler for smart city solutions allowed for such an easy integration," says Altin Arapi, Sales Manager of Parquery AG, "Finding key partners that share the same vision and market approach, allows Parquery to concentrate on what its core competencies are, as we trust them to promote our solution to the market in the correct way.
