CAR PARK OPERATOR Q-PARK GAINS CONTROL OF ZUIDSTATION CAR PARK IN BRUSSELS

European car park operator Q-Park has reached agreement with the NMBS Group on the acquisition of the public Zuidstation car park in Brussels. The car park, which boasts 1,650 parking spaces, has been operated by Q-Park since June 2000 following a European tendering procedure. The acquisition of the car park is a logical progression in the years of cooperation between the NMBS Group and Q-Park.

Prestige project

q-park.gifSituated at Brussels’ Zuidstation rail terminal, the car park is the biggest station car park in Europe and is the main hub for international rail traffic between European countries. The growth of international rail traffic is matched by the demand for quality parking facilities for passengers. The car park has all the facilities required to meet this requirement in full.

Safety for car park users

Because it has a number of entrances and exits enabling the car park user to join Brussels’ inner-city ring road or outer ring road, speed and convenience are guaranteed. Ten speed gates or electronic access doors seal the car park completely once a car has entered or exited. This prevents unauthorised persons from gaining access to the car park.

Each access door to the car park is fitted with a reading device so that a valid timed ticket or season ticket is required to enter the car park. The four levels below ground are also equipped with a number of intercom sets. Car park users have a number of points from which they can contact the duty parking attendant. Cameras allow staff to constantly monitor the entire area of the car park, which measures approximately 65,000 m2.

The floors have been given a special epoxy coating to protect the concrete and for the convenience of car park users. The heated floors at the entrances and exits have been treated with a special anti-wear coating. The spacious parking bays are easy to see and make the task of driving into them much simpler. Access to and from the car park and the station is provided by escalators, lifts and stairways leading directly to the arrivals and departures hall.

Q-Park in Belgium

Besides the above car park at Brussels’ Zuidstation, Q-Park is active in other car parks such as the Berchem Station car park in Antwerp, the CarHotel airport car park in Melsbroek, the St. Martinuskerk car park in Genk, the Korenmarkt car park in Mechelen, the Inno car park in Charleroi and the Park & Ride facility at Berchem railway station. Finally, Q-Park also manages and oversees on-street parking in Berchem. The company operates a total of over 6,500 parking spaces in Belgium.

Over the past few years, Q-Park has been expanding its interests in Europe. With 180,000 parking spaces, Q-Park is among the top 5 privately owned car park operators in Europe. The company has 1,500 employees throughout Europe.

Q-Park’s policy is based on providing a customer-oriented service, with the emphasis on speed, convenience, safety and hospitality.
