Q-Park Invests in Latest Technology Increasing Convenience and Security

The latest phase in the transformation of car parking facilities at Belfast International Airport has been unveiled, with the launch of the latest 'Licence Plate Recognition' (LPR) technology at the Long Stay car park.
Q-Park's 100,000 investment in the new LPR image-processing technology (a Northern Ireland first for car parking facilities) has been introduced following customer research which identified a greater need for convenience and improved services. The new system also complements the fact that the majority of air passengers now book their travel arrangements online.

"Through investment and innovation, we are giving our customers the convenience and service that we know they want" says Cecil Brett, Head of Operations at Q-Park.

In addition to improved accessibility and security features, Q-Park customers who pre-book online or by phone will save up to one-third off the standard gate price.

Brett added; "Holidays are about relaxing and getting away from it all. Travelling can be a stressful enough experience in itself. That's why Q-Park has invested in a system which offers customers additional convenience and peace of mind and together with the satisfaction of knowing it comes at a heavily discounted price."

The newly installed LPR cameras record the licence plate details of each car as it pulls up to the main barrier at the airport's long stay parking facility. The details are then automatically verified from a predefined list of authorised vehicles, each recorded via Q-Park's on-line booking system. As soon as the registration number is authenticated, a parking ticket is issued and the driver gains entry. When leaving the car park, the system works in reverse.
As the pre-booking system confirms the parking fee in advance, customers benefit from significant cost savings, and have no need for cash or credit card payment when leaving the airport.

"Listening and responding to customer needs and delivering a safe, secure and convenient service is vitally important to us," Cecil Brett added. " Thanks to this new technology, holidaymakers now have one less thing to worry about on their return journey. By booking online customers are reassured of getting a space in an enhanced security environment for their vehicle - all at a discounted price."

Q-Park's latest investment at Belfast International Airport marks another important phase in improving the car parking experience for all users and enhancing the facilities already on offer which includes courtesy shuttlebus drop off at the terminal entrance, bus shelters and CCTV.

Q-Park is Europe's leading car parking provider and manages over half a million parking spaces at over 500 locations. In addition to the operation of the 8,000 spaces at Belfast International Airport, Q-Park is responsible for the development and management of the 1,000 space car parking facility at Belfast's Victoria Square, which, when open in 2008, will become Q-Park's flagship operation in Ireland.
