Sika Park Deck System for Carpark Killesberghöhe, Stuttgart, Germany

After the Stuttgart exhibition center moved to the area close to Stuttgart airport in 2007, the city of Stuttgart planned to redevelop the Killesberg district where the old exhibition halls were located. A competition called "Future of Killesberg" was held to design an approximately 35,000 square feet extensive construction project. In September 2012, the new city district was renamed: Killesberghöhe.

The project includes various residential buildings and a district center with a mixture of shops, cafes, and restaurants which will provide an artistic atmosphere. With all of the new developments the requirement for an underground public parking facility became very important. The construction of the car park lasted from May 2012 to April 2013. This project together with all of the involved contractors is the first new-build project which has received Dgnb-certification "Neighbourhood in Gold“ from the German Sustainable Building Council (Dgnb). The award was given due to the above average test results of ecological, economic, socio-cultural, technical and functional quality.

Project Requirements 

The floor surface of all floor levels in the car park had been designed with a friendly grey colour. The main contractor, Ed. Züblin AG, applied Sika carpark flooring systems on 21,000 m² of floor surfaces.

For the floor area in the basement, ramps, corridors and storage - which totals up to 7,000 m²- Sika® Cardeck Static-System was applied. this system is composed of Sikafloor®-161 / 264 / 358, and its rigid system feature is ideal for manual application on the ground surface. it is not only waterproof, but also has excellent abrasion resistance.

Sikafloor®-2530 W, a broadcast, coloured, rigid waterproofing flooring product was applied on the stairs.

For the intermediate park decks, totalling approximately 12,000 m², Sika® Cardeck Elastic-System, a flexible, crack bridging flooring system composed of Sikafloor®-161 / 350 n / 358 was applied. It also has excellent abrasion resistance, plus chemical resistance. Furthermore it can withstand the mechanical and chemical loads caused by incoming and outgoing vehicles.

The slip resistance requirement according to r11/V4 has been completely fulfilled in this carpark, and today the underground carpark of Killesberghöhe provides 320 big parking spaces for the whole district.

Note: In the meantime Sikafloor®-358 and Sikafloor®-2530 W are replaced by the new products Sikafloor®-378 and Sikafloor®-2550 W.
