APT SkiData to overhaul Edinburgh Airport car park system

APT SkiData has been awarded the contract to replace Edinburgh Airports car parking technology infrastructure, and manage the parking of more than 4,500 vehicles.
APTs new system will use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and Radio Frequency ID (RFID) technologies to make parking faster and more efficient for passengers.

Work to install the new systems is due to start next July.

As part of the refit, APT will have to install a number of new barriers, which will control the access in to and out of Edinburgh Aiports parking spaces.

This includes 1,500 short and business stay spaces and 3,000 long stay car parking spaces.

Additionally the gateway has two staff car parks, a special coach park, a taxi car park, and a taxi rank feed car park.

Within these car parks there are 10 entry and 11 exit barriers and nine entry/exit points using RFID only which need to be updated.

Meanwhile, a total of 21 Easy.Cash pay stations are also being installed at the car parks for airport visitors.

Nigel Young, business development director at APT SkiData, said that the new RFID devices have been installed for the purpose of pre-pay top-up cards purchased by taxi drivers and contactless cards used by airport staff.

He said: Data from all of the technology installed can be gathered, transmitted and integrated within BAA's in-house management information and yield management systems, thereby giving BAA total visibility of their car parking operations.
