Highways Magazine Excellence Award 2012 for Tamar Bridge Project

At the Highways Magazine Annual Awards for Excellence, held in London on 11th October, the A38 Tamar Bridge Illuminated Road Stud Project won the award for Road Marking Project of the Year.

This scheme was undertaken by SWARCO on behalf of the Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald Joint Venture. The scope of works included the supply and installation of around 500 intelligent road studs to provide lane demarcation and driver guidance through the Saltash Tunnel and over the Tamar Bridge – a high profile highway scheme in the Southwest of England.

SWARCO TRAFFIC Limited worked together closely with sister company SWARCO V.S.M., who provided specialist equipment for the installation. The project faced many challenges including inclement weather, restricted access provisions, and very short closure periods for the installation works. SWARCO overcame all these challenges to complete the works ahead of schedule, receiving commendations from our customer, and from the ultimate project owner, the Highways Agency.

The innovative nature of this project, and the commitment by SWARCO to deliver the works efficiently and effectively has now been recognised by the peers in the industry with this prestigious award.
